A Season of Thanksgiving

Please check out the post below and vote on my sidebar for my photo contest winner. Voting ends tomorrow morning! At the beginning of next week I'll post the Christmas categories for the December photo scavenger hunt. Spread the word, and if you you didn't join in last time, try it this time! Again, there will be a prize ;-)

Anyway, yesterday I posted a little about the Christmas season, and how I am trying not to celebrate it until Thanksgiving is over. Because I love Thanksgiving, and I feel bad that so much of it's thunder keeps getting stolen by Christmas. It seems to happen more and more, earlier and earlier every year ;-)

I'll be the first to admit that I have a little bit of a skip in my step on the day after Thanksgiving, because that to me is officially the first day of the Christmas season. But I LOVE waking up on Thanksgiving morning and watching the Macy's Day Parade even more :-) And I love running around from place to place on Thanksgiving, celebrating with our families and eating at each location ;-) And I definitely love coming home after the long day and snuggling with Luke while we watch the first Christmas movie of the season in our exhaustion. Oh...and I alsa kinda love all the Thanksgiving leftovers that last well into the next week. Mmmm, turkey sandwiches ;-)

But Thanksgiving is so much more than that. It is a time to really appreciate everything God has blessed us with. And this whole month, I am challenging myself to have an attitude of thanksgiving in everything I do.

Tonight I was making dinner while listening to my Josh Groban CD (And yes, it was the Christmas one. I slipped again! :-P). There is a song on it called "Thankful." It is technically a Christmas song, but I think it's perfect for Thanksgiving! Listen to it...it will probably bring a tear to your eye as it always does mine. And of course it's a beautiful song...Josh sings it, how could it NOT be? :-)

I could listen to this song over and over, because it makes me realize how much I have to be thankful for, and how much I could be using what I have to help others.

"Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it, but receive it with thanks."
I Timothy 4:4

  4. Great post - I'm with ya, Thanksgiving does get overlooked sometimes, and it's easy to do, but I'm trying to enjoy Thanksgiving and not just the impending Christmas season!
