Blog Identity Crisis

Before I was pregnant, I had a huge pet peeve.  I hated it when a blogger would become pregnant and their blog would become solely a pregnancy/baby blog.  This is partly because I still wanted to hear about other aspects of their lives, and partly because I was obviously jealous.

I have always vowed that my blog would not become a pregnancy/baby blog.  And yet I can't remember the last time I blogged about anything besides Scarlett and pregnancy.  I'm quickly learning that you should NEVER say that you'll NEVER do something (ha, I kind of just did in that sentence, didn't I?)

I've been struggling lately because there have been so many things I've wanted to write about.  From my feelings on "tummy touching" (go ahead! Touch away!), to nursery projects, to my fears regarding motherhood.  But I have hesitated to post so many things because I've been so afraid of this turning into a baby blog.  I keep thinking, "no, I need to post about a non-pregnancy-related topic instead."  But then I can't think of anything non-pregnancy-related to write about.

When I ask myself why I want to refrain from writing about my pregnancy or baby, the reason I come up with is that I don't want to bore the people who read my blog, and I don't want to lose followers.

I finally realized that those are silly reasons!  I write this blog to keep a journal of our lives and to share what God is doing in my life.  And right now my life is kind of consumed with preparation for baby Scarlett.

So I guess this post is me saying, "sorry, not sorry."  I'm going to stop feeling bad for posting about the pregnancy so much!

Make no apologies.  Those who matter won't mind, and those who mind don't mater!

  3. Jess - don't be scared that your blog is changing. You are going through such big and exciting changes right now so it is normal that your blog will take new directions. Do not worry about it. We love hearing about all the new exciting baby adventures.

  5. I know what you mean about a blog turning into entirely pregnancy posts once they get pregnant.. but ultimately, it's YOUR blog and this is where you are in your life right now! Lifestyle blogs grow and develop around your life and what you're experiencing, so you should never hesitate to post the things you're experiencing! I'm so happy for you and look forward to hearing more about your pregnancy! I've been so absent from blogger lately that the last I read you were still struggling with the reading of other baby/pregnancy blogs while you were trying to get pregnant. It's amazing how things have worked out for you!! It makes my heart so happy :)
