This post is really random, but I just have a question.
I have never eaten sushi. I will never eat sushi. The raw fish thing REALLY freaks me out. I have no desire to eat it, and I hope I am never in a situation where I have to eat it. Yuck.
Okay my question is, am I missing out? It seems like such a trendy thing, and I'm anything but trendy. I'm just wondering why it's so popular and why everyone seems to be eating it?? Isn't the texture just disgusting? Is the taste good?? I just don't get it. Could you please fill me in on what I'm missing?!
Maybe I'm just too picky. I'm really not picky in the grand scheme of things, but when it comes to food that came from the ocean or a lake I am. I barely even ate fish before I started dating Luke. It always freaked me out too. Now I can eat it...as long as it's fried. I don't like shrimp either. I think it's the texture. Which I think would be my problem with sushi.
I know that there is sushi that doesn't necessarily contain raw fish. But still....ewww. It just looks gross to me.
Okay, well that's all for today. Luke and I are headed out on a date tonight! "To Save a Life" is playing at a movie theater nearby. It's a Christian movie, made by a church just like "Fireproof" and "Facing the Giants." (Not the same church, though). I'm curious about it, and excited to see it! I'll let you all know if it's any good!
I don't think you're missing out. I too never even wanted to try sushi, but went on a date once where the guy made me try it. I didn't gag or anything, but nothing about it gave me the desire to want it ever again.
ReplyDeleteNot all sushi has raw or any sort of fish in it. There's vegaterian sushi as well, which many of my friends like. It was ok, but nothing I'm dying to eat again.
ReplyDeleteWell....I love sushi. I used to feel that way about the raw stuff too. But I ended up loving it. And the cooked stuff is really good too!
ReplyDeleteYES! You are missing out! I had to try it at least 4-5 times before I finally found one I liked and now there is NO stopping my love for sushi. I have started making it at home because I can't afford to buy it all the time. I usually ask people, "Do you like...rice?...avocados?...cucumber?...imitation crab?...cream cheese?... If you like any or all of those then you will like sushi. Try it with wasabi, then try it with the spicy sauce, then try it with soy, then try it plain, try a fried one with crunchies on top.....If you are any bit squeamish then don't have it with masago (which is fish eggs). But PLEASE give it a good try a few times at least. Sorry - just a little fanatical about it!
ReplyDeleteAs from my post today, I have to say you are missing out! I love sushi! You should SO try it out....start with the rolls, they are so tasty!! If you dont like, then you never have to try it again...but you should!!!

ReplyDeleteI love sushi! Although, I have to admit that when I first tried it I wasn't a huge fan. I started out with the vegetarian stuff and California rolls, which are just avocado, cucumber, carrot and crab. There are still some things I won't eat (mackerel, eel, octopus) but those are things I don't eat anyway. Most of the fish I like in other meals are great in sushi. I actually prefer the raw tuna to cooked. I'm a big texture person (slimy=bad), so I just don't get the ones with fish on the outside of the roll.
ReplyDeleteI really think sushi is an acquired taste and if you don't get the nasty boxed kind, it's actually pretty decent!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE veggie rolls! Oh, and fried tempura :)
ReplyDeleteI think you are missing out haha. I LOVE sushi and a lot of it is really good for you. I don't eat the really raw fish either, and there are other choices. It's addicting!
ReplyDeleteI really like {some} sushi. If you're going to try it I would start with either the California Roll or Crunch Shrimp. Those are my favorites and there's nothing raw in either of them.
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of To Save A Life. What did you think of it??
I have to say that I happen to LOVE sushi!
ReplyDeleteBut that being said, if you really don't want to try it or it doesn't appeal to you, then don't worry! There are plenty of other good foods out there :)
P.S Before I tried sushi, I thought it seemed like the grossest thing ever!
