January Blues

I went to the movies yesterday with a friend (we saw RED, by the way, and it was excellent!) I snapped a picture on our way there, because I just couldn't believe how ugly the world looked.
That was before the real snow started. We got out of the movie and everything was covered in inches of snow: the ground, the car, the road... ewww. We watched an SUV spin out of control in front of us on the highway, and and it somehow ended up on the other side of the road, across the valley between the lanes. It was terrifying, and I'm so glad we were somehow able to stop in time so they didn't hit us.

Gahhh, I hate this time of year! January is the worst month ever.

And what is it about being freezing that makes me so tired?? I woke up last night at 1 AM, in bed, still wearing my khakis and sweater. I got home from the movie (it should be mentioned that I didn't have time to come home and change before our girls night. I don't normally dress up in work attire to go to the movie theater!), immediately collapsed in bed and started watching Sarah Palin's Alaska. I had plans to get up and change into some pajamas at some point, and maybe even tackle the dishes. None of that happened. Luke tried to wake me up so I could get ready for bed (that just sounds so backwards! Ha!) but he was unsuccessful. Could I have slipped into a coma?

Let's not even get started on what the cold disgustingness that is this month does to my motivation.

January is gross, and I pretty much hate it.

But...

It does make me so much more thankful for the little everyday blessings! Things like:
  • warm sweaters, cozy pajamas, hot drinks, and heavy blankets.
  • Nights spent in, watching movies and chilling out. Tonight we're having an "Inception Night" at Luke's parents' house, and I think it will be so much fun! (And by "Inception Night," I don't mean that someone is going to take over our dreams. I mean that we're watching the movie. Hahaha, I crack myself up).
  • Good books
  • Snow days
  • Candlelight
  • Soups and stews
  • Sled riding and ice skating
  • Getaways
Wait, what was that last one? Getaways? I think that maybe the best way to escape the winter blues, is to literally escape the winter! Why have I not thought of this before?

So sometime this month, Luke and I are abandoning our jobs and responsibilities for a few days, and we're getting on a plane that will take us away from the winter!

That's as specific as I'd like to be. Just in case someone may be waiting for an open invitation to come rob my house. I will schedule posts while we're gone, so you won't even know it. Heck, I might even be gone right now, you don't know! (Just kidding, I'm not). I'll be sure to share way too many pictures and stories when I return, so you'll know then!

If I could just rip the January page from the calendar and skip it, I so would. But since I can't, I think escaping it is the best option possible :-)

And before I know it, it will be February! February I can stomach, because it's the last full month of winter (although here in Ohio, that's debatable) and because Valentines Day helps to break it up.

What do you do to cure your winter blues??
