Trusting Him

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night and every single thing you could possibly be stressed about is in the forefront of your mind?

I do. Not all the time, but more often than I'd like to admit. I wake up and it's like all of my fears are just screaming at me! Even the tiny ones that I thought I had hidden in the back of my mind.

About a month ago, I woke up at 4 AM and just laid there for an hour, going through every fear in my mind. By 5:00, I had no hope of falling back to sleep. My mind was racing and everything felt out of control. I was in all-out panic mode.

I knew I wasn't going to be able to feel enough peace to fall asleep unless I did something about it.

So I walked out to the kitchen with a little pad of paper, and started writing down every single worry I could think of. The big ones and the tiny ones alike.

A few examples of the things on the list...

  • Class registration
  • Money
  • Dr's bills
  • House not as clean as I'd like it
  • Fear of failure
  • Guilt for failing
  • health issues
  • friendship issues
And that was just a small sampling. In all, there were 17 items on my list that I was worried about that night.

After I wrote them all down, I prayed over each one. And as I prayed, I pictured myself putting every worry in a little box, and in the end, giving that box to God, and not taking it back.

I prayed over them one time, and then I chose to trust that He would take care of them. After that, I put the list away and laid back down.

I immediately fell asleep.

God's peace is like nothing else. It comes so quickly if we just ask for it.

Today I was cleaning out some things, and I found that list. I decided to go through and see how many of the worries were taken care of, or not issues anymore. It was fun putting a big line through all the prayers that God had answered.

And in one month, 12 of those 17 worries/prayers have been answered! I was blown away when I looked at that list again. God has fixed so many situations in such a short amount of time! Or He has changed my perspective and attitude about them, which is just as significant.

I don't know why I waste any time worrying.

"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows."
~Matthew 10:29-31

P.S. Go check out my post on My Twenties Blog about the summer when I fell for Luke, 7 years ago!!

Also, we are doing our very first giveaway over there, and you don't want to miss it!

  1. Praise the Lord for answering so many of your prayers in so short a time! I completely know what you mean - night time is the worst time for me to think about my worries too. But it's wonderful when we can give it all over to the Lord and receive His peace!

  2. You are sooo right... God's peace is like NOTHING else! Praise God you experienced it - I love that you wrote down the fears vs. ignoring them! That's so important and then GIVING them up -- that's what God wants from us! Bless you!

Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment! I read and appreciate each and every one. Blessings to you!
