Desert Song

My pastor always says there are three kinds of people: People who are going through a hard time, people who just went through a hard time, and people who are about to go through a hard time.

Desert Song, by Hillsong, speaks to all three types of people. It has become my prayer and my mantra since I first heard it about three months ago.

The verse that has been speaking to me lately is the second verse:

"This is my prayer in the fire
In weakness, in trial, or pain
There is a faith proved of more worth than gold
So refine me Lord through the flame."

If you are in a time of need, listen to verse 1. If you are going through trying times, listen to verse 2. If you are going through a time of battle or spiritual warfare, listen to verse 3. And if God has brought you through tough times and has rescued you and blessed you, listen to the final verse. This song really speaks to everybody, and I could listen to it every day of the week. And sometimes I do!

The chorus is simple, yet powerful:

"I will bring praise, I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice, I will declare,
'God is my victory and He is here.'"

But my absolute favorite part of the song is the bridge:

"All of my life, in every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship
."

So simple, but again, so powerful. No matter what you are going through today: maybe you lost your job, have a failing marriage, are struggling with infertility, have cancer, are struggling with depression, [ETC] or even if God has blessed you and you are going through a time of peace...

We all have a reason to sing and worship. God will bring us through whatever we are going through, and He will do it all for His glory. We don't have to let these trials crush us! We can dance through the desert, flames, and battle. As long as we let God be our choreographer.

I challenge you today, whatever you are going through, to face it. Trudge forward and choose to go through the flames. He will use them to refine you, strengthen your faith, and bring glory to Him!

  1. Love this.

I am currently in a difficult journey and I cry more often than I would like to admit. My relationship with God and the support of my husband are the only things getting me through it.
