This n That

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Palm Sunday...I think it's important to remember Jesus' sacrifice this week. I work at the children's welcome center at our church (I'm called a "Hut Attendant" because the children's wing theme is "The ReignForest - Where God reigns and children grow." The whole wing is decorated like the rainforest, and the welcome center is The Hut. I think it's cute :-)). Anyway, part of my job this morning was to pass out all the palm branches to the children before they went up and waved them in the sanctuary for Palm Sunday. They were so adorable, and such a blessing!

Anyway, I'm going to rewind back to yesterday. Luke and I finally made our trip to Boardman to shop for Easter outfits. I learned something about myself yesterday: I hate malls! I must be getting older, because in high school and college, the mall was my favorite place to be. But it was so crowded, the prices were so high, and I could not find a cute dress anywhere! Luke had no luck either. I was about to throw my hands in the air in defeat, when I saw IT: my Oasis in the middle of the endless desert that was the mall:
If you've never been to Kirkland's, it's just a store filled with home-decor items. Comparable to Pier One, but with pretty low prices. I HAD to buy something there. We had to make a 45 minute car ride to get to Boardman (Yeah, we live in the middle of nowhere, and I love it!) and we had just spent 2 failed hours trying to find new outfits. I did not want to go home empty handed after all that. So I bought these canisters since mine keep breaking:

They came with the tray and everything. The best part? They were originally $40 marked down to $12!! If I see a bargain like that, it's absolutely impossible for me to pass it up. So thank you, Kirkland's, for making yesterday's trip worthwhile. Although I still have nothing to wear on Easter Sunday. Oh, and we had dinner at the Chik-Fil-A at the food court, so that's always a perk.

On the way home, Luke and I were kinda bummed that our trip was a bust, so we indulged in Coolatas from Dunkin Donuts - coffee for me and strawberry for Luke. It was delicious, and made us feel much better :-) Then we decided to splurge and rent a movie, too. Luke and I have a certain allowance each week for entertainment and extras, and we had spent almost none of it in the month of March, so we went a little crazy last night. (Is it sad that eating Chik-Fil-A, buying Coolatas, and renting a movie is "crazy?" Ha! I think it might be a little bit!) The movie we picked was "Seven Pounds" with Will Smith. We watched it after Bible study last night. Well, Luke watched it, and I watched the second half. I have a horrible time staying awake during movies for some reason! But the second half was amazing :-)

Today was a great day, too. There is not a cloud in the sky and it's in the upper 50s. It's one of those days that just makes you happy. I think I'll go for a little walk around the neighborhood after this. After church, we went to a little pizza place with a bunch of our friends. It was great to catch up. Then Luke and I went to visit his parents, and now he's upstairs taking a nap/watching the Cavs game. Tonight we graduate from our Financial Peace University class. It has been so amazing, and we've learned so much, but it will be nice to have Sunday nights free again :-)

Okay, one more thing. I'm taking a picture of our house every season the first year we live here just for fun. The winter one is my computer background, and I just can't look at all the snow for another minute! So I took the spring one today (note how beautiful the weather looks in the spring one, and know that it's supposed to SNOW, like, a lot, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Oh well, I'll enjoy the nice weather while it lasts I guess!)

Spring:
What a difference 3 months can make!

Everything is coming alive again...waking up after a long winter. I know I keep showing the pictures of my little daffodil plant, but here's another one. Spring really is here. It's about to bloom!
Everything died for 3 months, and now it's coming back from the dead. Reminds you a little bit of the Resurrection, right? So this week while you're noticing the flowers start to bloom and leaves start to bud, let it be a reminder of what Jesus did for you when he died on the cross and rose again.

Sorry for the long-windedness of this post. Yes, I make up words :-)

  1. I've really enjoyed visiting your blog! I too was at the mall this weekend, and looking for basic brown sandals. They are seriously IMPOSSIBLE to find! They all look like gladiator shoes now, and that just isn't ME. LOL!! I saw a couple of posts down that you made Poppy Seed Chicken -- Yum! That's a family favorite here, and we serve it over rice! Hope you enjoy what is left of your weekend, and thanks for your sweet comment on my blog! :)

  3. I understand how hard it can be to shop for Easter clothes! I think I have given up on the hope of finding anything in an actual store, are resort to drooling over JCrew dresses!

  5. Yeah, Kirkland is a Costco brand. But Kirkland's is a store. I'm not sure if they have them all around the country or just close to where I live or what. But I love it, and they have great deals :-)
