It IS that bad

For the past week and a half, I've been wondering if my toothache was really that bad, or if I'm just a total wimp.

After my appointment today, it turns out it really IS that bad. Here's what my wonderful dentist sent me home with today:He set me up with an "Emergency Surgery" on Wednesday morning OF NEXT WEEK. I thought I'd have more time to prepare than that, but at least I won't have to anticipate the pain for too long. And he set me up pretty well until then as you can see from the pictures above, and below.Apparently my wisdom teeth on the bottom are coming in COMPLETELY sideways. The x-ray showed them at a complete 90 degree angle with my normal teeth. The left one is digging into the next tooth over so badly, that it's hitting a nerve. Thus the crazy pains that have been shooting through the left side of my face and neck for the past week. The PenVK is an antibiotic that is supposed to prevent infection due to this situation. I think. All of this got a little confusing!

And I think we all know what this stuff is. I have never taken a prescription pain pill before, so the dentist told me I will be pretty knocked out for the rest of the night once I take it. I was looking forward to a fun weekend, and now it looks like I'm going to be pretty out-of-it the whole time. Oh well.
Apparently I'm special, because only patients with extremely difficult and painful wisdom teeth extractions get this stuff from my dentist. I take it an hour before my surgery, and I guess I'll be so out of it, I'll barely know what's going on. (my dentist doesn't put people under for oral surgery, so this was my next best option). Honestly, I'm a little nervous about how it will make me feel, but I guess it will be easier when I'm barely conscious for the whole thing.
These are the other pills the dentist gave me to take an hour before my appointment Wednesday to help with the pain.
And this is a fun little squirty thing that I get to use to try to keep my sideways wisdom teeth as clean as possible until they are FINALLY removed on Wednesday. I guess I'm just supposed to squirt hot salt water or peroxide back there. It's a pretty gross process, I guess, but it still looks kinda fun :-)

So tonight for date night, Luke and I are going to Wal-Mart to fill all of my prescriptions. Fun, fun. I'm just excited to be able to chew and open my mouth the whole way again once the pain medicine kicks in. I'm famished right now because it hurts so bad to eat.

Oh, and after the surgery? Apparently I'm going to be in misery for days. [don't read the next sentence if you're easily grossed out!] Apparently they have to cut my gums and break the teeth into multiple pieces to get them out since they're sideways and jammed in so tight. I'm terrified about that part.

So, you've probably had enough. You know more than you ever want to about my upcoming oral surgery, I'm sure. But it helps with the nervousness to talk about it a little bit. And I'm going to selfishly beg for your prayers on Wednesday. I will be a nervous wreck, and I just hope it all goes well.

I always try to look for the blessings in bad situations. So here they are:
1. I get to take AT LEAST 2 sick days next week!
2. God mercifully never gave me upper wisdom teeth! They just aren't there! So the bottom 2 are the only ones I'll ever have to have taken out...so I'm done FOREVER after Wednesday with that! :-D

  1. oh, man..that's awful. I hope everything goes well. You've gotta love pain killers when the pain gets that bad. Hope your weekend goes okay inspite of all the bad news!

  2. Oh, honey, your in my prayers. I know your worried but I'm positive everything will go well. And then like you said, it will all be over and it will be a distant memory. And you'll be pain free.

  3. I will be praying for you. Let me know how it goes, and pray for me on the 29th, because that's when I get mine out (and I, unfortunately, do have all four)!
