Creative Outlets

Now that work has begun again, I find myself needing creative outlets to relieve stress. This weekend I had lots of plans to do things around the house, finish reading a book, and watch a movie that I had rented. However, none of that happened. I was just in a creative mood all weekend, and I've found that creativity is a great escape!

I think it all started when my mom called me yesterday and let me know that she had snagged a sewing machine at an auction for me! I'd been wanting one for awhile. It's an Elgin, it is probably from around the 70s, and it works just fine and is very easy to use. I spent a lot of time playing around with this all weekend.

This week I'm going to find a sewing tutorial for SOMETHING online, I'm going to buy some cheap fabric, and I'm going to make something. Today I just used this old cloth napkin from my mom to practice stitches

I've also been working on my knitting a lot lately. Last year I would knit during football games, and I worked on a scarf all season. this is how far I got:

I keep saying it's a Barbie scarf or Barbie shawl or something. Ha! But I'm going to try this again now that I've had a little bit of practice. This time I'm going to make a scarf, and I'm going to finish it! And I'm going to use this beautiful blue yarn:

I've been busy decorating the house for fall. I'm nowhere near finished yet, but there are little touches here and there. And I have a few projects up my sleeve that I would like to complete around the house.

I've been and will be writing a lot for not just my own blog, but also for the church blog and campaign newsletters in the next few months. I love doing these things so much that I'm starting to think that maybe I should have majored in communications in college. This seems to come much more naturally to me than teaching.

And finally, I've been busy taking lots and lots of pictures. Can you tell JC offered to let me borrow his camera again? I was so happy. He said I could use it while the leaves change since I love fall so much. I thought that was so nice of him!!

I am having so much fun with all of these things lately. What do you do to relieve the stress of work?

  2. I'm glad you found some healthy ways of getting rid of your stress :-) When I'm stressed, I like to craft as well, watch a movie or just spend some alone time on the couch with a hot cup of tea/coffee :-)

  5. You were probably better not majoring in comm. As I did, and I ended up leaving a job in my major to be a teacher!

  7. Oh, I'm so jealous you got a sewing machine! I've been dying to get one, but I'll probably have to wait until Christmas. :-( Can't wait to see what you make!
